Welcome to Sarah Health Initiative

Who We Are

Sarah Health Initiative is a non-profit organization founded in 2025 with a singular purpose: to create social impact in the Nigerian Health Sector.

Our focus is to reduce maternal mortality in Nigeria by ensuring that every woman has access to timely, quality healthcare during pregnancy and childbirth. Our mission is rooted in the belief that no woman should die giving life. Through immediate financial support, early detection of risks, and access to comprehensive healthcare and education, we strive to create a safer and more supportive environment for mothers and babies across Nigeria.

At Sarah Health Initiative, we envision a Nigeria where no woman dies giving life. In this future, every woman—regardless of her economic background, geographical location, or social status—has access to timely, quality healthcare during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

We strive to create a world where maternal health is no longer a privilege but a fundamental right for all women. Through widespread education, early detection of complications, and improved healthcare infrastructure, we aim for a reality where safe motherhood is achievable for every woman, no matter where she lives.

In this vision, maternal health emergencies are met with immediate, compassionate care, and no mother is ever turned away due to financial constraints. We see a future where healthcare systems are robust and equitable, providing comprehensive care that addresses not only the physical needs of women but also their emotional and social well-being.

By empowering communities, improving healthcare delivery, and dismantling the barriers that prevent access to care, we believe we can make this vision a reality—a Nigeria where every mother thrives, and every child is given the best start in life.

To reduce maternal mortality by providing immediate financial support for maternal health emergencies, ensuring early detection of risks through comprehensive screenings, and preventing postpartum complications through access to quality healthcare, education, and community support.

The birth of the Sarah Health Initiative vision began with a life-changing experience that impacted our founder. As a student midwife, she witnessed the stark reality of maternal healthcare in Nigeria—a reality that left too many women vulnerable to preventable complications.

One particular moment changed everything: a heavily pregnant woman arrived at the hospital in distress. She was unaware of the danger lurking inside her—preeclampsia—and within moments, her condition escalated to eclampsia, causing seizures. The medical team acted swiftly, performing an emergency cesarean section, saving both mother and child. Yet, the joy of their survival was overshadowed by the cruel reality that the woman could not pay the hospital bill and was detained, even as she held her healthy newborn in her arms.

This moment raised a painful question: How many women in Nigeria never make it to the hospital? How many are turned away, or worse, lose their lives and their babies because they can’t afford care?

This experience revealed that the issue was not just medical—it was systemic. Poverty, lack of education, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, and societal neglect were working together to make pregnancy a dangerous journey for many women. Determined to make a difference, Sarah Health Initiative was born.

Our founder’s vision is clear: in a nation with abundant resources and potential, no woman should ever face the threat of death due to preventable maternal complications.

At Childbirth
Provide Immediate Financial Support for Maternal Health Emergencies

We understand that financial barriers are a major factor preventing women from accessing lifesaving care. Through our initiatives, we provide emergency financial aid to women in urgent need of medical attention, ensuring that the cost of care never stands in the way of a mother’s survival.

During Pregnancy
Screening and Early Detection of Causes of Maternal Mortality and Morbidity

Our work involves comprehensive screenings and regular health checks to detect maternal health risks such as preeclampsia, eclampsia, and other pregnancy-related complications long before they become life-threatening. Early detection saves lives, and we aim to make these screenings accessible to all women, especially in underserved areas.

Post-Partum
Prevent Postpartum Complications to Reduce Maternal Mortality

We recognize that the danger does not end after childbirth. Our mission extends to postpartum care, focusing on preventing complications such as infections, excessive bleeding, and other preventable health risks that can arise after delivery. Through access to quality healthcare, education, and community support, we ensure new mothers have the resources and knowledge to stay healthy long after their babies are born.

Values We Operate By

Our Guiding Principles

Empathy

We believe that every woman’s story is unique, and we approach each individual with deep empathy, understanding, and compassion. Our work is rooted in the belief that no woman should face the journey of pregnancy and childbirth alone or unsupported. We listen to the voices of the women we serve, ensuring that their needs, concerns, and emotional well-being are always at the heart of our actions. Empathy is not just about providing healthcare; it's about offering emotional and social support to help women feel seen, heard, and cared for at every stage of their maternal health journey.

Transparency

Transparency is essential in everything we do. We are committed to being open and honest about our goals, operations, and outcomes. Whether it's sharing the impact of donations, providing clear information about our programs, or being accountable for our actions, we maintain a high standard of transparency. This ensures that our stakeholders, including donors, partners, and communities, can trust us to act in the best interests of the women and families we serve. Transparency allows us to build credibility, foster relationships, and ensure that all our resources are used effectively to improve maternal health outcomes.

Collaboration

We recognize that the challenges surrounding maternal health cannot be solved by one organization alone. That's why we believe in the power of collaboration. We work closely with healthcare providers, communities, local governments, other NGOs, and partners who share our vision to create lasting change. By pooling knowledge, resources, and expertise, we can create more impactful, sustainable solutions for maternal health. Collaboration also extends to the women we serve—by actively involving them in decision-making and empowering them to be advocates for their own health, we build stronger, more resilient communities.

Progress

We are driven by a constant desire for progress—not just in terms of outcomes, but also in how we approach maternal health. We continually seek to innovate, improve, and evolve, ensuring that the services we provide are responsive to the changing needs of women and communities. Our commitment to progress means that we are always looking for new ways to improve healthcare delivery, educate communities, and reduce maternal mortality. We celebrate every milestone, no matter how small, but we are always focused on the future, striving for better results and a healthier tomorrow for all women.
